Terms of use

Using this website means agreeing to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please stop using the site.

1. Who publishes this

This website (“the Site”) is published by Larkfield Health Library (“we”, “us”, “our”), an independent editorial project that operates online and nowhere else. We keep no public office and no telephone line, and correspondence of every kind reaches us at one address: [email protected].

2. The Site provides information, not professional services

The Site publishes general health education. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and using it creates no clinician–patient or other professional relationship. We are not a healthcare provider, a medical practice, a telehealth service or a pharmacy, and we neither sell nor supply nor arrange the supply of medicines, supplements, devices, tests or medical services.

The medical disclaimer forms part of these terms and should be read in full. Where these terms and the disclaimer overlap, both apply.

3. Who the Site is for

The Site is intended for adults aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

4. What you may and may not do

You may read, print and share our pages for your own personal, non-commercial information, and you may quote short extracts provided you credit Larkfield Health Library and link to the page quoted.

You must not:

  • Republish, resell or systematically reproduce our content, whole or in substantial part, without written permission.
  • Present our content as your own, or strip out attribution, copyright or disclaimer notices.
  • Feed our content into a commercial product, dataset or model, or use it to train one, without written permission.
  • Place our content in material that markets, promotes or sells a medicine, supplement, device or clinical service, or use it anywhere in a way implying that we endorse such a thing.
  • Scrape, crawl or extract content automatically at a rate that burdens the Site, or try to get around any technical restriction.
  • Interfere with the operation or security of the Site, introduce malicious code, or attempt unauthorised access to any part of it.
  • Use the Site for an unlawful purpose, or in a way that infringes anyone else's rights.

5. Intellectual property

Unless stated otherwise, the text, design, layout, graphics and code of the Site are owned by or licensed to us, and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property law. The name and logo “Larkfield Health Library” are our marks and may not be used without permission. The guidelines, studies and publications we reference remain the property of their respective owners; we link to them rather than reproduce them.

6. No warranties

The Site and everything on it comes as it is and as it happens to be available. We work to the sourcing and review practices described in how we work, but so far as the law allows we promise nothing, expressly or by implication, about accuracy, completeness, currency, or suitability for whatever you intend to use it for — nor that the Site will stay up, stay secure or stay free of errors. Clinical guidance is revised over time, and it is not the same in every country.

7. Limitation of liability

So far as applicable law allows, neither we nor our contributors carry liability for loss, injury, illness, damage, cost or expense of any kind, direct or indirect — lost profit, lost data and lost goodwill included — where it arises from your use of the Site, your reliance on what it says, or your being unable to reach it at all. The Site is used at your own discretion and your own risk.

Liability that the law does not permit us to exclude is not excluded here. That covers death or personal injury caused by negligence, and it covers fraud and fraudulent misrepresentation. Where a jurisdiction declines to allow one of the exclusions above, that exclusion operates there only as far as it lawfully can.

8. Links to third parties

We link out to other websites so that readers can check our work against the guidance and research we have used. Those sites are not under our control, and we take no responsibility for what they contain, what they claim, what they sell or what they do with data. A link from us is a pointer, never a recommendation, and if you go on to deal with whoever is at the other end of it, that dealing is between the two of you. We carry no advertising of any kind, so nothing on the Site has been paid for by a third party; the arrangement is described in our editorial standards.

9. Writing to us

Email reaches us over an insecure channel, and we cannot act clinically on anything it contains, so please keep confidential health information out of it. Feedback is another matter: send us a suggestion or a correction and you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free right to act on it in improving the Site, with nothing owed to you in return. If we quote correspondence we may trim it for length, and we will not attach your name to it without asking first.

10. Privacy

Personal data and cookies are dealt with in the privacy policy, which is incorporated into these terms.

11. Changes and availability

Any part of the Site or its content may be altered, extended, suspended, limited or withdrawn at any moment and without warning, and these terms may themselves be revised. Whichever version carries the “last updated” date above is the one in force; carrying on using the Site after a revision means you have accepted it.

12. Applicable law

These terms nominate no governing law and no exclusive forum, which leaves the ordinary rules undisturbed: the law that applies to you where you live applies to these terms as well, and every mandatory protection it gives you as a consumer survives everything written above. Should a dispute arise, write to us first — the Site sells nothing and collects almost nothing, so there is rarely anything that correspondence cannot settle — and if that fails, the competent court is whichever one the rules applicable to you identify.

13. General

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remain in force. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These terms, together with the medical disclaimer, the privacy policy and our editorial standards, form the entire agreement between us about your use of the Site.

14. Contact

Questions about these terms: [email protected], the same address as everything else. The contact page says what to put in the subject line.
